EASTER TRAINING CAMP
|
RBCC
member Grant Roe has kindly offered to put together an RBCC Easter training camp
this year. The camp would include an interclub road race with the Orange
Cycling club as well as some interesting training rides (profiled below). The Easter break
this year is from Friday 2 April to Monday 5 April. Grant lives in Orange
(commutes every weekend) and so knows the region well. It is anticipated
that members drive up and get themselves settled in on Friday, then
training/racing days will be scheduled on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Grant has
sourced accommodation at one of the Orange Hotels. Twin rooms work
out at $50 per person per night. If you want your own room then
you are obviously going to pay more perhaps $100 per night. The
hotel is known for good and reasonable evening meals at the "in house"
restaurant. There is the bar and also common areas in the
accommodation section to kick back and tell tall stories.
So to put
this all in perspective, the average person will pay $50 accommodation
per night, perhaps $25 - $30 for night time meal and with an allowance
for breakfast and lunch, we anticipate that cost of the weekend will be
roughly $100 per person per night. This of course is only an
estimation as the only real constant is the accommodation component.
We will therefore require deposit from those going in the amount of $150
from each person to secure accommodation.

Here is the latest proposed schedule:
Saturday AM - Club training ride (Orange - Tallwood - Orange loop)
approx 62km mostly low grade - normally quick pace with some hit-outs -average
approx 35km/hr and a sprint finish. Finish with coffee in town. See Map &
profile here.
Saturday PM - Graded Road Race 36km. Two loops of an 18km circuit,
mostly low grade with a couple of short pinches to sort out the bunch.
Start and finish at the Forest Reefs Tavern so good carbo loading recovery
assured!! NB: (Orange club has approval to conduct road
races on this 18km circuit)
Sunday AM - Training ride. Orange - Panuara - Millthorpe -
Orange loop. This is an interesting ride with some longer climbs and good
descents. Good scenery. Overall distance is about 70km Stop at Millthorpe for
coffee and then ride back into Orange mostly flat for the final 20km - this can
be hard for those who have the legs.
Sunday PM - Suggesting recovery at some local vineyards.
Monday AM - Couple of options being considered - either a shorter hill
climb ride to the Pinnacle and Mt Canobolas (about 40km) or a longer trip out to
Cudal and back via hills. This is a longer ride - closer to 90km with a hard
climb from Cudal back into Orange. The ride to Cudal is mostly downhill then a
solid ride back. The shorter option may be better for giving time to drive back
to Sydney. Another option for Monday is a hill climb time trial up the Pinnacle
- this is short and steep however could be interesting. This would be subject to
getting approval from CA and police (the other race is approved).
There is excellent riding around Orange with quite roads and good surface (only
the few rabbits and kangaroos to dodge!). The cooler weather this time of year
makes for great riding. There is also a good variety with flatter bits and some
steep hills.
Please advise us if
you are attending this camp by both entering your details top right of this page
and by paying your deposit. As soon as you do this Grant will be
able to book your room and procure your spot in the camp.
